Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Lyelij, July 9. Lyell Creek Extended.— The mine manager reports for the week as follows :— "The contractors for the main shaft have completed a further depth of 6ft, making the total depth sunk 84ft. There are now six men engaged on this contract, which. i is the only work vow in haud in the mine." Notes from Keefton. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Reisfton, July 10. The Buller dredge return is 14oz 7dwt. Quotations :— Big River, lls to 12s ; Buller dredge, 5a to 53 6d ; Cumberland, Is to Is 3d ; Dillon, 9cl to Is; (iolden Lead, 9d to Is; Herculet, Is to Is 3d ; Keepit-Dark, 28s to 30s ; No. 2 i Dark, 9d to Is ; Lord Edward, 9d to Is ; Lyell Creek, Is 9d to 2s ; Alpine, 5< 6d to 6s 6d. 1 I understand that the demand of miners for an ! increase of waives is to be decided by the arbitration :is provided by the act. I am authorised to state that the statement put in i ircuUtiou by an anonymous correspondent, 1 that' the miners demanded the erection of suitable huts by the companies for the accommodation of the men, is not true. Nothing even resembling auch demand has been made. As far as I can learn there is nothing further to chronicle about the proposal to amalgamate the. Alpine and Lyell Creek Companies. „ A case of interest to miners was decided by the warden yesterday. Cowan and others sought an injunction to restrain a party of Chinese from sluicing dibris to the Buller River, thereby interfering with the plaintiffs' dredging claim.' The warden dismissed the case without < costs, but stated tha had the proceedings been initiated in proper foim an injunction would have „ been granted, as it was not legal to sluice into any river that is not proclaimed a sludge channel, and the Buller is not proclaimed.
