April 13. — Very good entries have been received for the Gore Hibernian Society's sports, to be held on the 19th inst For the Hibernian Handicap there are 21 entries, for the Publicans' Handicap 15, and for the Easter Handicap 10. The best wrestltrs in the colony will compete in the heavy weight wrestling contests. Wrestling has always been a feature of athletics in Southland, and some grand tussles aie looked forward to Amusements — SocTals, lectures, &c, are still being indulged in by the people of our little town. The local Oddfellows will give a social to-morrow, and the Black Family will give a concert on the same e*'euing. Mr J. \V. Poynton, S M., Invercargill, has kindly consented to give a lecture on the 23rd inst. in aid of thelocal athenteum. His subject is " The Spectroscope and its Application." A Flourishing Business.— Messrs R and F. Wallis have lately been adding to the plant and buildings at their fellmongery, Ea»t Gore. The latest addition ia a laigc building for carrying on more extensive boiling-down operations. They have also erected a hydro-extractor for drying wool and skins ; a drying shed 120 ft by 26ft, capable of spreading 12 bales of wool at a time ; and four washing boxes. The firm employs 50 hands and sends away 4000 bales of wool every year It sends from 300 to 400 casks of tallow and close on 130,000 pells per year. At the present time the firm is treating between 1100 and 1200 bkins per day.

Technical Classes. — These are now being got under way, aad will probably be started after the Easter holidays. Mr D L. Poppelwell has been elected president, and is backed up by an energetic committee. The English class is betfer patronised than any other. It hab been decided not to erect a special building for the gymnasium aud technical classes in the meantime.
