HUNTING.

DUNBDIN HOUNDS AT WAKARI. ' Saturday's meet of this pack at Wakari ' ftttractad a numerous assemblage of intending followers and those who came to view the sport on horseback and on wheels. Local residents were also well represented, the valley presenting quite a holiday aspect. The meed was as usual at Mr P&esmore'd, and Messrs Fassmore and Marshall had evidently been very busy in laying out a good run and seeing that everything was in proper order. Under' my observation came Mr Sselyo on Yonk; Mr D. Bacon, Caunonball; Mr M'Keioh, Micsr; Mr Harley, Pearl ; Me T. Godfrey, D*ndy ; Mr R. Macdonald, Tapanui ; Mr Charles Newman, Silvertail ; Mr Grant, Stockman ; Mr A. Palmer, Surprise ; Mr M'Kay, Rattler ; Mr Roid, Kelly ; Mr Baird, Dunblane ; Mr R. Allen, Ulster ; Mr ■ Beasley (Waikouaiti), Odd Trick; MrO'Connell ! (Seacliff), Duncombe ; MrLaing,Wildlri»hman Mr Stronach, Captain ; Mr Coony, Babylon ; Mr S Gourley, WaiSangi ; Mr Ritchie, Woolbroker ; Mr Philp (Gore), Top Rail ; Mr T. Leadham, Honesty ; the Hunt«m>ui's Mount was Dunraven, and the Whip was well carried on Freemason ; Mrs Swanson rode Duutrina ; Mies Fortesoua, Fancy ; Mr Armstrong drove a hone in buggy; Mrs Silk, a pair of ponies and phaeton; Mr J. Ellis aud Mrs Ellis, double boggy and pair ; Mrs Myers, phaeton and ponies. Before the sport commenced Messrs Armstrong and Co. took a photograph of the hounds and followers. The start was from Mr Fassmore's homestead, and the first three or four fences were taken without a mistake, but in jumping over a pcsfc-aud-rail out of a small enclosure Dunraven blundered on to his knees', unshipping the huntsman, and a red coat was seen vainly endeavouring to corner up a runaway steed. Mr M'Keich on Mick, Mr Leadham on Honesty, and Mr Reid on Kelly led the field over the double and into a district road in which were three gateways which required to be jumped. Mr Harlej's mare Pearl aud Mr Godfrey's Dandy put in some good work over these obstacles. Dunblane glided into one of these and gave Mr Baird a cropper, fortunately without seriously hurting him. Two paddocks from this the pack finished the run by running into a rabbit. 'After a brief spell, sufficient to recruit horses and riders, another run took place, the hounds, as is usual on the return run, going at a very fast pace, there being a considerable gap between the pack and the leading followers. There were no mishaps noticeable, if we except the killing of a hound through bo ing accidentally jumped on. Mrs Swanson, the only l*dy follower, was well up at the finish. It is .probable that the next meet will be held at Pino Hill, as some local sports are endeavouring to arrange a run in that district.
