WELLINGTON NOTES. By Canes.

May 7. • . • Tha Dunedin schedules have arrived here, and tbe general opinion of fanoiors ie that the classification is good. One change for the | better that I note is tha providing a team claes for colHpr instead of allowing this breed to i form the nou-sportin« te&tn class, k> the detriment of mastiff*, St. Bernards, Newfoundlands, bulldogs, &c ; aad the idea might with advantage hare been extended aud s, team class provided for fox terriers, and so giving setters, pointers, Spaniels, &c., a chance in the sporting tennis. There is one thing I do not liks in the schoduto, and that is clas^as for puppies under six months. Under the most favourable conditions I do not agree with tho showing of unfurnished puppies, for the best judge in the world cannot say with any oeit*iuty how they will turn out ; but considering that Dauedin sho*v is for three daja and the doga under canvas— [This aiT»Bg<-aaeub hag been chuaged, as will be noted above. — Terror.].— at fch<~ most uncedain time of t4ie year, it is tempting Pi-cvidenco, and in the event of bad weather coming on i 5 might •result in distemper being sot np and caiviid home to many kennels. In rough collie* I not« that tna limit class is for dogs and bitohes that have won more than one first; prizo. There is probably aa omission of "not" between tho 4 *hr.ve" nnd " wou," otherwise a champion could compute. Wuilst on the subject of collies, I should )i\w U* nsk th<i Dunediu committee what othsc variety ot | collie there is besides thG rough, smooth, bearded, and SmiUiliold ? Of course I know the Wolah hcekr, but he would come undor the emo-otli class. * , " Ti>e B,v. Tainui, which Rrrived on Monday, brought out a notable- faßoi«r in the porson of Mi' J. Muitland, w&o brings with him two bulkioga, two fox tamers, and a great Dine. The laiter is- a *p'ew}i4 animal, standing 34-iu at the shoulder, and having a niivwive hea£ of 12£ in in length, though he ia . only 18 naoaths' old. He is of tha fashionable harlequin colour, and is a good one all over, and I am ywry ss>ny he will «ot be out of qunraufcino in tjius for the Wellington s'&ot?. His ntuaeia Lord pLowefitoifo, asd his eira is Hswold tho G*eafc, and his dam Gartrude, Queen of Denmark, The fox terriers are a dog and bifceh. both by Viß-a-ris. Tbe name of the dog is Bssd Or, and he ia a winner a>> Cainbu^aag, Kilmarnock, and Ayr. He is a dog with a lot of character and style, but too high iv tbe te#, and, or course, not in show condition. Tbe bibeh h*s a nice h«n3, bat owing to a bad attack of distemper her ears are not carried properly, and she has consequently never been f>hovrn, bub she is of bt/autiful size, and ought to be a very valuable brood bitch. Tiie bull dog ie Duke of. Connaught, by AshtoaJoe, aad won secoud prize at Clyde Bank. He hue very gc«4 shouldero and forelegs, but his hiad is not bcokeu up enough for hot competition. The bitch is ia very poor ooudition, so it is scarcely fair to criticise her, but no doubt they will all come off Boame3 Itland much improved animals. * . * Messrs Harrison and Hcrrax's collie bitohen Haolemesre and Holmwood have pupped to Holyrood, the dog that won the silver collar for bout novioo at la3t Welliug'.ou show. • . * The Wellington Kennel Ciub mat this evening, and drew up the schedule for their next show. Mr Maitland was present by invitation, and ve^y generously offored the committee a medal for the Irish terrier clays. Medals were also proaaised by Mr Alister Brown and Mr Haggen, of the Faaciec. Specials promiae well, and everything points to a most successful show. Tha secretary was instructed to write and fix up matters with Mr J. Maude to judge all classes. • . • At the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club, on the sth inst., 11 honorary members were elected. On behalf of the members Mr Hajne presented to the secretary (Mr A. J. Rutherford) 10 beautifully bound volumes, with the following inscription ou the flykaf of each volume t — " The membera of the v Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club present to Mr A. J. Rutherford tb.ii volume (with nine other*) at & small token to show their appreciation of hie valuable services as" secretary of the society." Mr Rutherford, in a short speech, suitably responded. The club opened their season on Saturday with a fly from Maheno, a distance of 50 miles, tha time taken by the firet bird being lh 24min. The" weather was wet and misty, and the birds had also a strong vriud 'o contend with. Tha following were placsd out of 13 birds liberated : — Mr W- R. EUj tie's Ocean Spray 1 (velocity, 1052 yd« per minute) ; Mewra Crosbie and Lawrence's Ravensning, 2 (velocity, 1020 yds per minute) ; Mr J. Shepherd's Lady Zetland, 3 (velooity, 10l9yda per minute).
