NOTES BY TERROR.
• . • Onr dogs will not appear under canvaa after all. It ia now deoided to hold the show— deg section— in tha City Hall. I think the hall will be somewhat crowded, but with judicious arranging, and double banking of bet>ohss, as in the cellar at the Garrison Hall laat year, things may turn oat comfortable enough.
* . • I learn that the order has been placed in Mr C. Bills's hands for the new benches mentioned in a recent note, and I certainly think that the sub-committee having the dog geciion in hand are to be complimented upon their exertions. I trust that they will have a moit successful year.
. • . * It is understood that we are to be tailored with tte rrtseacft of covers! nor&ern
fanciers of note, including the president of the Now Zealand Kennel Clab. I trust this is true, as actual contaot with local men is, I fancy, more likely to create that good feeling whioh should exist between fanciers than the gossip of interested travellers. • . • I have received the schedule Of the Dunedin Fanciers' Club for the next show (July). The classification I consider very good. I might point out what seems to me an error in the limit class, --No. 388, for rough- coated doga or bitches which have won more than one first prize. Does this mean more J>h«n one fiwt prize in the open class, or ought it to have been one first prize only ? • . • The schedule of the Southland Poultry, Bird, Pot, and Dog Society's tenth annual show, to bo held at Invercargill on the 29th and 30th July, is also to hand. I cannot, I regret to say, congratulate the Invercargill fancy on the classification of their dogs. Looking through the schedule I find no less than six clauses set apart for the Cocker spaniel ; whereas in the rough-coated collie olaes there are only five, and the in fox terrier class only three, not to mention a few other classes which are of us much importance as the Cocker. It has always been r<joognised that the co'lie and fox-terrier classes are the most important in any show. This is, I think, the flrsftime that I have seen the Cocker spaniel taking premier position in atsy schedule. I would suggest to the Invercftrgill Dog Committee that they should revise their schedule without delay, otherwise I am afraid they will have very few collies and fox terriers at their next show. The strangest thing in the whole schedule, however, is that the only ohampion class is for Cocker spaniels I I ~uotioe also that there are no (earn clnsses for noa-sporfciog dogs. This is a great pity. • . ' •' Fancier," of the New Z«slaud Mail, sayn :—": — " I have reason to believe thafc a very sttot'gcontmgentofWellingtondo^ftwill juutney to Duued-in in July. Collies and terriers no doubt will be the strongest cl&ssqs represented. It has been suggested th&t a conference of doggy men could be held in Dunedin during the show days. This, I think, is quite practicable, as there will be a good mauy visi' ors from all parts of the colony in Dunedin at that time."
