HUNTING.

DUNJEDIS HOUNDS. Shiel Hill was originally th« fixture for the meet on Saturday, bnt the time-honoured remarks of that popular poet whose statue adorm the Octagon anent the sohemea of m«n and mice proved true in this instance, as the ground was not in a fit condition te hunt over, oomeqnently Halfway Bush was the choien •pot, and Messrs Kedzlie, M'lvor, and Cameron laid cut a splendid ran, much longec than usual, and over splendid hunting country with every variety of fence, stonewalU being plentiful. The utterance was very good, the local people taming out in great force. Amongst the visitors I noted Mr Matheson on Triton ; Mr M 'Erich, Mick; Mr Oldham, Robin Hood; Mr Reid, Kelly; Mr B»ird, Duablane ; Mr Leadham, Honesty ; Mr H J. Gourley, (master) Sancho ; Mr James Gourley, Waitangi ; Air F. Laing, Wild Irishman ; Mr Thomas M'Kay, Young Digby; Mr Harley, Pearl; Mr Charles Newman, Silvertail ; Mr Downes, Jack ; Mr' Marshall, Starlight; Mr Hudson, Erebus. Mrs Silk drove a pair of chestnut ponies in a low phaeton ; Mesdames Gourley and Wadle, buggy and pair of horses ; Mr and Mm Ellis, double buggy and pair ; Mrs Elvers, phaeton and pair of ponies. The huntsman's mount was Dunraven, and the whip, Duncombe. After tho drag had been laid by Mr Kedzlie, jun., the hounds were laid on to a burning scent, and made the pace over the first big grass paddock to the top of the hill a cracker. All went as merry as a marriage bell over the firit three fences to- the 66p02 We hill, •nolosed. bj* itonc wall, which

was answerable for the overthrow of Mr T. M'Kay, on Digby. The horse, striking hard, dislodged Mr M'Kay with considerable force, aud joined the leading flight on his own account. The Master's mount (Sancho) and the Whip's mount (Duncombe) turned Bulky and refused to negotiate the obstacle. A good gallop down hill over a big grass paddock brought the field to the district road, fenced by gorse hedges, which were taken successfully, the hounds still maintaining a good load ; then through some marshy ground, where the riders required a good grip of the reins and a sharp aye in front of them. Another double near Sir Cameron's followed, the leading division being Mr Laing on Wild Irishman ; Mr Rud, Kelly, Mr J«m«3 GfourUjy, Waitangi; Mr Leadharo, Honesty; Mr Ketohon, Miok ; Mr Harley, brown mare ; Mr Baird, Dunblane. Three mtfre stone walls, and the run finished in a paddock overlooking tha sea. Evtryone of those who managed to get through pronounced it to be the longest and best run they have ever had in the district. After a spell a return run was had, which was very suooesaful. After the race meeting on the 24th, proceedings will be very interesting, as a number of new horo«3 will be out. The ladies who patronised the meet wore Miss Driver on noil Call, Miss Macdonald on Janoy, and Miss Fogaa on Ravenswing. Followers will no doubt be pka*ed to learn that a good course has been secured over the properties of Messrs Bennett, Collins, Paisley, and others at Broad&cres (Upper Juuct : on) for next Saturday.
