A party of bookmakers, driving to Sandown Park racep, pulled up at a private lunatic asylum to inquire after the welfare of one of their fraternity, who h«d lot-t his reason. They found tbeir old confrere well cared for and comfoiUble, and they tried to cheor him up. As they were leaving, one of the " bookies " asked tbe invalid if he wanted anything. " Well, yes, Bob, I do," was the reply, in a whisper. '• I would bo awfully glad if you'd give me a book and a bit o' pencil ; for the chaps in 'ere are such blcomin' idiots that they'd take &ny price I offered 'em about a horce ! "
