Messrs Thomas Paterson and Co., fruit and produce agents, Manse street, report for the week ending December 18 :—
Market barely supplied with fruit of all kinds. The Melbourne boat arriving to-morrow will bring fresh supplies, nnd these will meet a brisk market. Oranges, ltis to 18s (scarce). Lemons, 15s. Apples, none obtainable. Bananas anrl pines, none obtainable. Cherries, 103 to 12s. Plums : Black, 4s Gd to ss ; cherry plums 4s tos< per half case. Gooseberries, lid. Stmwbeirie 1*:1 *: Wainiate (nearly done), 4}d to 5d ; British queens and Paxtons, 6d to 7d. Rhubarb, 14s. Green pease, lidProduce - ICgcs wanted. Fresh butter in good supply ; salt butter. 5Jd to Gd. Cheese. 4£d to sd. Bacon : Roll, s£d to (id ; hams, 7_£d (a choice lut in sto c); pigs, 3d. Potatoes: Peninsula (fresh dug), Id per lb. Unions, 10s to 12s ; new Victoria just to hand. Poultry: In good demand; hupply not equal to requirements. Walnuts, new figs, B.ircelonas, Brazil i.uts,and other fruiterers' sundries iv stock.
