WEEKLY MARKET REPORT.

Messrs Moritzson and Hopkin, millers, grain, produce, and commission agents, corner Bond and Jetty streets, Dunedin, report (wholesale) as follows for week ending December 19, 1894 :—

Wheat : We have fair demand for prime Tv- cans and velvets at 2s 9d to 2* 10; red chaff, 2s 7d to 2s< 8d ; chick feed, good whole scarce, 2s 4d to 2s 6d. Barley : Little denvmd ; brewers are not operating -3s 3d to 3* 6d ; feed and milling, 2s Cd to 2s 9d. Oats have fairly good demand. Prime milling, Is 4id to Is sd ; prime ordinary feed, Is 4d to Is 4Jd. Hops : Little demand, 9d nominally. Potatoes : Good old Derwenfcs, 30s to 355. Chaff: Prime heavy, well cut and riddled, £2, 7s 6d to £2 L2s 6d ; ordinary, £1 15s to £2 ss. Ryegrass: We have a good demand for small, shotty, heavy seed (from 261b to 28\b), 3s lOd to 4s. Our buyer wishes the seed in 48in Backs, which we can supply free of charge (for the use only on trucks here) if seed is sent to us for sale. Our new dressing machine will begin work early in January; particulars on application. Cocksfoot, 4d to Bd ; prices nominal. Cooper's and Little's dips on hand. Cornsacka to arrive by Calcutta steamer this mouth. Nitrate of soda, £15. Basic slag or Thomas phosphate meal, £6. Linseed, £12. Clovers, turnip seed on application. Consignments of wool received. Weßell outside the association. (All quotations subject to market fluctuations.) PRODUCE AND FRUIT DKPARTMBNT.

Kggs : Plentiful ; great complaints of stale and rotten eggs. Butter. — Fresh: Supplies shoit of demand. Salt • We can dispose of all prime quality at 5Jd (cases i»), for shioment to London. Under new dairy act 1894 all butter for export must be sampled by Government expert and placed in freezer four days before departure of steamer. Government pay freezing charges. We would urge all butter-maker- to forward butter soon as ready, to prevent its gptting stale. Hams, 7^d ; rolled bacon, 6d. Potatoes —New Kidneys scarce— ld per Ib.

Victorian onions, Ms to Us. Fruit —Oranges, 14s •, lemons, lls to 12s od; cherry plums, 4s 6d ; dark plums, 5s 6] ; cherries, 7s 6d to 10s od ; banana*, 2Jd ; apricots, 6s 6d; peaches, 7s 6d ; pine apple 3 (scarce), 15s ; goo'eberries, So to 9s per cwt. We receive regular shipments of fruit from Australia, Tasmania, and Fiji, also New Zealand ports. Prices on application.

Ducks, 2s 9d to 3s 9d ; ducklings, 3b 3d to 4a. Geese, 5s 9d to Gs 9d. TurkeysCocks, 7Jd to »d ; hens, 6£d to 7d. Sheepskins.— Slaughtered crossbreds, ortto sjd; do merino, 4d to 4Jd ; fallen cros»bred3, 4<X to 5d ; do merino, 34 to 4d. Business haa never been so bnsk with us as during the past two months, our stores having been crowded with buyers morning until night. Just now we are sadly inconvenienced for want of room in which to show the stocks we

have recently bought. We are, however, carrying out extensive alterations, which will partly remedy this trouble and enable us to attend better to our customers We are just opening up several cases of new goods and as most of these are samples of roxt season's fashions, novelty can be depended on. We intend to adhere' to our advertised system of trn.di.ig, and will return the full purchase money to any buyer who way not be satisfied with their goods when examining them at homo.
