The Clutha River Traffic.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — We Clutha people are beginning to wonder if the new arrangement of running the boat is any better than the old method. Under Captain M'Kjnnon's reign we certainly had an irregularity, which we all complained about, but I understand ths t 'at -rly that irregularity had the virtue of cheapness. When the new arrangement was arrived at by the wisdom of the trust, a new captain was appointed with a highly paid crew, t ips were to be regular and profits to the trust certain. As a ratepayer, I now want to know if the change has been a success ? From my own observation I can see that the steamer has been almost constantly under repair, that claims for damage for cargo not protected properly are being asketl, as well as other outlays. If some member of the trust of a liberal turn will give the people a little information upon this subject it will save the writer the task of again calling public attention to the matter. — I am, &c, April 4. 1-Aut Play.
