November 23.— We arehaving some extraordinary weather just now, quite out of season ; indeed , '• one would almost' think that the seasons had changed; 'High, cold winds and shtfwera'of rain, hail,! and snow pass over us in ceaseless succession, and the opinion of all is that such unseasonable weather lias not been experienced for y^ars. There is no growth in the ground, and this will probably cause a late harvest. ■Mining.— Everybody is In suspense over mining matters at present, daily expecting to 1 hear of the solution of Mystery Flat. Mr Jones, who is prosecutiug the work of sinking, has reached a gravel bottom which is believed to be in close proximity to the wash dirt. The depth attained is Borne '23ft; There is a continuous stream of water pouring into the shaft, but It is ' quickly drawn off by a steam pump capable of managing 20,000 gal per hour. , A company is now being formed for the purpose of working a dredge ' here. Probably there will be a thorough revival in mining before long,' Concern.— A very successful concert came oft here on the 16th inst. in aid of our school funds. Mr 0. Robertson occupied the chair, and delivered a raoy introductory. • speech. After an ' Interesting ■ pro1 gramme ; had been gone through a dance followed, which was kept up till morning. Nine pounds, after paying all expenses, was the aum realised. 1
