jnovbmbbb 2<J.— uuring cne wsc tour or uve months our little township has advanced with rapid strides, no less than three different kinds of businesses having' Btarted— viz., a butcher's shop by Mr James Menzies, a brunch tailor's shop by Mr Waddell, of, Oamaru, and a timber yard by Mr Munro. It is gratifying to. note such good progress in so short » time, as it Is a sure sign of prosperity. The two last-named will prove to be a great boon to the district, especially the timber yard. The Government have also been making extensive improvements, on the Waitalu bridge. Formerly the ' embankment between the two bridges had a great curvo in it Biid,a dip in the centre. . (This embankment has been' straightened and made level with 'the two bridges. The upper side has been thickly planted with willows, and large quantities Of rubble pjaced at each end, to protect ft against floods. , The willows are shooting out splendidly, and i£ they continue to grpw as well as they are doing at present they,ought to form a good breakwater. The approaches to the bridge have also been greatly improved. The Uttle township of Sandhurst, on the other side of the river,, just about a mile from Kurow, is very quiet at present.

Thb Wjbathbh.— The month of November up to the present has been very cold and boisterous, with intermittent showers of rain. Shearing .is now general, but I daresay a good many sheep will be .lost with the cold. At the time of 'writing it is raining, and if it does not clear up soon no doubt in eorae places the loss will be pretty severe. !
