June 22. — The inquest touching the death of the unfortunate man (Jiilly, found dead on tlio railway line near the Gap road crossing, resulted in a verdict of •'Accidentally killed," to which was added a rider recommuuliug somo improvements at the eroding, a consummation much to bo desired.
Thk Weather - Owing to the. frequent downpour of rain and .sleet the Oreti river and the smaller streams of tho drtriet are in a chronic state of flood. Farming operations are at a standstill, and stock is suffering considerably. Amusements. — For the amusement of our young people our town can boast both a. rinking club and a quadrille assembly. The first -named meet in Mr Milne's Hall, the latter in the Oddfellows' Hall ; and, I may add, both are fairly palronibed by the youth, ami — especially tho latter — by the beauty of the district..
Bunny. — Through being drowned by the floods and poisoned by phosphorised oats, "bunny" is having a bad time of it. The elements and Government officials combined aro certainly succeeding in abating the nuisance.
