In justice to Reuter'j Agency wo reprint the following 1:—1 :— , "To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. <• si r —Your readers will remember that about three months ago a letter appeared inyour columns, calliiiir into ouesrion the accuracy of our telegraphic quotations for New Zealand wheat, and it was alleged that wo were in the habit of quoting the. highest price for Adelaide and the lowest for Now Zealand descrip°"ln reply to tho inquiries I have in due course made in London, I ,have , received from our head office copioß ol two circulars specially compiled lor transmission to the Australian Colonies, by the mails of 6th and 20fch April, and which I now enclose for your perusal. From these it will be keen that on the former date Messrs Burrows and Perks quote Victorian wheat at 54s to 64s Od, as against New Zealand "ood ordinary qualities, 50a to sls Cd, whilst on the fatter date the price of Adelaide and Victorian is stated to be 55s to 565, and that of New Zealand 51s 6d to 525. Reference to our flies shows that our telegraph quotations on about the same dates were as follow, viz. :-March 27th, Adelaide wheat, 54s 6d ; March 22nd, Now Zealand do, 51h ; and again, April 17th, Adelaide wheat, 555; New Zealand iio, 525. "From the above it will be seen that so far from having as suggested by yux correspondent, quoted the highest rates for Adelaide and the lowest for Zoalaud who it, our telegraphed prices wore well within the margin shown in the circulars above referred to, and gave a fair average quotation of the rates ruling at the time. • "In order that those interested may be enabled to calculate tho value of the various grades, wo propose in future to givo a range of prices in lieu of one quotation only as in the past.- I am, &c, " Hknry M. Collins, " General Acrent in Australasia for Router s "Telegram Company (Limited). " Melbourne, July 2fath, 1882."
