TEACHERS FAREWELLED BY COLLEAGUES.
FUNCTION AT LEVIN SCHOOL. To fittingly mark the departure of two of their number, the staff of the Levin District High School gathered in the common room Thursday when presentations were made to Miss M. J. Oyston and Mr. R. D. L. Irwin. Miss Oyston will shortly assume her new position as infant mistress at Makara School, while Mr. Irwin has been promoted to senior secondary assistant at Woodville District High School. The headmaster (Mr. W. D. Thomas) made glowing reference to the work done by both teachers, and said it was with regret that they left for new spheres. He expressed good wishes to each for the future. These sentiments were endorsed by Messrs J. Casey and T. Chipper. Miss R. O. Milnes then asked Mr. Irwin to accept a handsome silver teapot and crystal honey-jar as a token j of the esteem in which he was held by fellow-members of the staff. Mrs. Z. K. Lynch made Miss Oyston the recipient of a dainty silver vase and a volume entitled to Music," tangible evidence of her popularity. Both Miss Oyston and Mr. Irwin made suitable acknowledgment of the honour accorded them.
