Afternoon tea was provided, ajt Mrs Barwell's residence. . i In declaring the season closed the j President (Mr A. I. Milne) trusted j every one had enjoyed the game . despite, the damp weather, y The. greens were m fair' _ order and as many of them had only, been made up and top-dressed this year, he con--. 1 sidered the course . would soon im-" ' prove to be equal to any country course m the province. The speaker did not claim the credit "which was due to the several pioneer members of the Club', who had given thought, energy and time m laying out and preparing . the course. This year, the /Committee had contracted the job of looking after the greens with satisfactory results. The men's club had enjoyed a most successful season, despite the fact there were only a few really regular and enthusiastic players. They had started off with a . sealed hole match on 3rd June, which ' was won by Mr D. Stevens. Stroke competitions had later been 'won by Messrs A. I. Milne, A. A. -Fisher, D. Stevens, D. Stevens,. F. L. Smith, A. A. Fisher, H. Farr and J. E. Stevens. The ringer competition had. attracted interest ■• and '-• been evenly, competed for, "Mr 'A. I. Milne winning the A' grade by $ appoint from Mr F L. Smith and Mr H. Farr the B grade. The championships' had been I won by Mr F. L. Smith, A grade ; Mr J. E. Stevens, Bgrade; and Mr G. MF Milne also wished to thank the members of Committee for attending meetings and' as- ' sisting him throughout the year. -It was also p. pleasant duty to have to - thank Mr and. Mrs Barwell for' the continued use of their property, which. ' proved a great asset to the Club. A ' noticeable feature during the year was the manner m which a number of the members reduced' their handicaps by consistently good play. " This should be a player's ambition and he suggested a prize for the player . effecting the greatest reduction , should be provided m future. He . then called upon Mrs Milne to pre- < sent the prizes for that days' compe- - tition. * ■ - In presenting' the Ladies' prizes, < the Ladi.es' Club Captain, Mrs F. L. , Smithy said they also had enjoyed a . successful year. The A grade cham- . pionship *. unfortunately had - not -g.oiic, • past the qualifying rounds, and was - not completed". Miss Reay Campbell '« won the B grade and was asked to * accept an engraved brass fruit ' bowl. " A number of button competitions were held, Mrs Reekie winning two and Miss O. Stroud two, and in-.the play-off, Miss .Stroud won to secure the prize (a powder bowl). It was pleasing to see -this player's handicap had started at 40, to be reduced" to 23. The Ringer, competition was also a success, Miss C. Burns winning „ with a 79£ score, Miss Ryan being , runn.er-up with 81. Miss Burns was presented with an inkstand, for a prize.
