Messrs Irwin and Sinclair put m their report of the inspection, by theni of the most needful repairs to the streets and* sewers. Leith street main sewerage will be an expensive piece [pi. work but most necessary.
Johnstone's Road wants repairs m several places, and Yarrow street sewerage, watertables and culverts need attending to. Pipes are needed '■ at Mr Brazier's corner. Bridge, daugeious, alterations needed on north side. Johnstone's road (Wakeling's conier) i. a dangerous place, and tho owner of the corner section be asked to do something to lessen the danger by reducing the size of the hedge, (i ravel is needed for general lepairs on all the thoroughfares. — It was moved and seconded that all these most necessary works claim immediate attention. The matter of immediate finance | was discussed to some length and it j was eventually decided that the Clerk ; wait on the "Wallace County Council i -and ascertain when they will be able to hand over the amount agreed on at the last meeting of the Council. The^je were several accounts passed ; for payment as soon as funds are available. The Clerk was instructed; to make- inquiries regarding the; royally derived from the coal carting. "Enquiries arc also to be made m regard as to who pays for culverts leading into private property. The Electric Power Scheme is unanimously opposed by the Nightcaps Town Board. In the opinion of the members that instead of the estimated cost of three quarters of a million three millions will be nearer the mark. Mr. Sinclair attended m Inveicrgill and he mentioned a few of the points which struck him as jiot satisfying. Fivht of all there was the 2o per cent business. There was the penalising of those who refused to participate ii the scheme was passed There, was a very wide difference m Mr. Hay's estimated cost per unit id, ond Mr, A. W, Rodger's £ of a penny per unit. Mr Sinclair's opinion was that the whole business was cut and dried before the meeting, Mr Rodger's wish was ludicrous m the extreme when he stated that he would like to have 80 per cent of the ratepayers to present to the liouse. It would look better than 2o per cent m favour of the scheme.
