ANNUAL MEETING.

I The ninth annual meeting of the Association was held m the Wallace Hall on Friday afternoon, when there must have been over fifty members present, which shows that members of the Association take a keen interest m its welfare. The chair was occupied by the President, Mr Jno. Lindsay, who m moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which has already been published, said that he was sure that all the members had

been studying the report during the past week, and it was very pleasing to be able to make such a flourishing report of the affairs of the Association. Considering the backwardness of last season, which was even worse than its

predecessor, the show had been a -treat success. They had been very fortunate m striking a splendid day for the show and the gathering had been a record one, which latter also meant a record financial time. Among the most distinguished of those present during the day were Sir Joseph an J. Lady Ward, and he trusted to see them 'again present at the next show. Referring to finance, the speaker said they were m a splendid position, the fine show grounds being I clear of any debt, while they had a credit balance m the bank of £59 Is 4d, and their surplus assets totalled _.B_:2 lis 2d. They had that day let a contract for extensive improvements on the grounds, which was the first step towards carrying out a continued scheme of improvements which would ultimately result m their show grounds being made second to none. He looked forward to seeing the whole work completed m 2 years time. He referred to the severe loss to the Association of two of its most enthusI ia9tic workers — Messrs John Carrick and D. Murchison— both of whom had passed away to the Great Beyond. Both had been directors of ths Association since its inception and their places would be hard to fill. Another whose loss would be felt also, was ihe late W. V. Trinder, who was a stewaid at the last show. Before concluding bis remarks he wished to thank all members for their courtesy to him during his term of offica, and the directow for their whole hearted support, tho latter having made hs position an easy one to fill, ahd also the secretary for the able manner m which he had carried out his duties. — Applause. Mr Jno. Horrell seconded the adoption of the report and balance sheet, and also referred to the loss sustained by the deaths of the members mentioned. ,Mr W. J. A. McGregor congratulated the president on the very successful year and show, and supplemented the remarks of the previous speakers regarding the loss of Messrs Carrick, Murchison and Trinder. The report and balance-sheet was adopted unanimously. OFFIOE-BEAREBS. Mr J. B. Ford was the only nominee for the position of President, and he was declared duly elected by the retiring President admidst applause. Mr McGregor apologised for the absence of Mr ford who is at present m Melbourne. He was confident that Mr Ford would make a good president. Two nominations had been received for the position of vjce-president, but Mr K. Bt. Bisset generously withdrew n favour of Mr John Horrell, who was unanimously declared elected, and took the chair amidst applaase. In his inaugural address, Mr Horrell said he was sure if they continued their present policy of progress, their Show would bo thk Show of the future. They had the district behind them and the men to carry it on ; New Zealand must live or die on the products of the soil. Speaking of the membership Mr Horrell said that every member of the Association should ace that his neighbour was a member also. Mr Jas. Byan proposed a hearty I vote of thanks to the retiring president, Mr John Lindsay, who was one of the hardest-working presidents they had ever had. — The motion was carried enthusiastically. Mr W. Saunders was re-elected auditor, and Mr John Fisher treasurer, and great interest was evinced m filling the nine vacancies on the directorate. Sixteen nominations were received, but Messrs W. Affleck and D. M. Mitchell retired, leaving 14 to' go to the ballot, the voting resulting as follows*— A. Duncan 39, Jno> Findlay 39, Jas. King 39, Jno. Lindsay 39, W. Bradley 37, K. Canick 35, A. 0. Cochrane, T. Cochrane 29, W. Lindsay 25, The first seven hold office for 3 years, Mr T. Cochrane for 2 years, and Mr W. Lindsay for 1 year. The other candidates were : Messrs J. B. Lindsay, J. R. Reidie, J- D. Salton, A. Salton and A. Gould, all of whom polled well up. Tho following resolution, proposed by the chairman, was carried m silence, all members standing: — •« That thia meeting of members desires to place on record its appreciation of the work of Messrs J. Carrick

and D. Murchison (directors) and also of Mr W. V. Trinder (steward), m furthering the interests of the Association, laments their removal by death, and expresses its sympathy with the bereaved relatives." Mr MoGregor's notices of motion

cial year trom 80th June to SOth April, and the- annnal meeting from the seoond Friday m July to the second Friday m June, were both carried unanimously.

Mr M, O'Brien gave notice of his intention to mdve at next annual meeting that the hour of meeting be changed from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A vote of thanks to the chair brought a very successful meeting to a close.

At a subsequent meeting of Directors, it was decided to hold the first meeting of Directors onfl the third Friday m August.
