From Week to Week.

Afc I 'o'clock on Friday, 25th July, altrial^of the Wallace Lime Spreader will be held on Mr R. H. Bisset's tarm. On the same day a meet of the Birchwood, Hounds will also be held at Avondale. At the conclusion of the run a hunter's jumping competition, for prizes donated by Messrs Biasetfc, Griffin and Oournane, will also be held.

The settlers of Birchwood and residents of the distriot are at present making preparations to tender a banquet to Mr A. W- Rodger, jnr, who arrived home last Tuesday after a lengthy trip to the old country. Mr Rodger, who arrived at the. bluff on Monday, motored from Invercargill to Nightcaps on Tuesday, and was met by the station teams and driven to Birchwood. The state of the Manuka road, over which Mr Rodger would have to travel, must have driven home to him the hard lot during the past montl_3 of the settlers ofj Birchwood, and doubtless Mr Rodger will at once utilise his energies m an attempt to i alleviate, if possible, the conditions 1 whioh are suoh a menace to the farm- > ing community of that district. The Coronation Hall i 3 ati present undergoing some renovating m the shape of internal decorating, ana it must be said that the work so far exeouted has made a very big difference to the appoaranoe of the stage. When furnished the hall should present a very gay and pleasing sight during the course of any social events held there. The work is being carried out by Mr G. Walker. Several seotions Rnd dwellings have changed hands recently, and it would appear that a demand for property of all descriptions has sprung up. Just at present Mr D. Sinclair is erecting a modern residence for (Mr Moncrieff, and Mr Wells is also having a substantial home erected. Our local stationmaster is at present enjoying his annual holiday leave, his place bsing filled by the relieving officer. Mr Bond. The annual school concert is to be held m the Coronation Hall on Friday evening, commenoing at 8 p.m. A very extemive programme by the children and friends, m all twentysix items are to be given, and as the children have been assiduously trained everyone who attends can expect a treat. A dance will be held at the conclusion of the concert. - The following teams will represent Nightcaps to-morrow, the Seniors to meet Riverion at Riverton, and the Juniors to meet Otautau at Otautau I : Cant ; Brazier, Cowie, McGregor .
