Evening sports.
Tiie second evening sports went off very successfully on Wednesday ovening, a good attendance being present, despite a chilly wind blowing. The Otautau Brass Band was m evidence, and played selections during the sports, adding materially to the enjoy me at of the evening. The entries were excellent, and the competition was first-rate, excellent performances bein^ recorded m every event. Chief interest naturally centred m the appearance of G. P. Keddell, who left the morning following for Wellington to compete at the Australasian chanipionships there oa Tueiday and Wednesday. Keddell performed up to expectations, and ;von the 100 yds handicap brilliantly m 10 l-sth sees, as well as running second m the 440 yds Hurdles. There were a good number of visiting athletes present, and tbe members of the local club entertained them m the evening at a social in*. Govan's Tea Rooms, a most enjoyable time being spent. The next evening meeting of the club is to be held on Wednesday, 10th January, when the following events will be contested : 100 Yards Club Championship and Handicap, 440 Yards Flat Handicap, Two Mile Flat Handicap, Pole Vault Club Championship and Handicap, Broad Jump Club Championship and Handicap. Entries close on Friday, sth January. In the 100 yards, the championship competitors will run m a so atch heat, the winner also qualifying for the handicap. Following are the results : — 1. Keddell ser, 3 R. A. Keddell 30yds. Started— N. Cowie 30yds. Robertson went out m front from the pistol shot, and led the rest till half the distance was covered, when G. Keddell cloaod up, aud the pair raced over the last hurdles close together, but Robertson finish- • ed strongly, and won by 3 yards. Time, 64 4-sth sees. 6. PUTTING 16LB SHOT HANDICAP. IJ. Henderson led tor the first lap, making the pace a cracker. The second time round the pace was considerably slower, MoFarlane leading. With a couple of hundred yards to go, Seddon ran out, andsoon established a good lead, winning by half-a. dozen yards, Robertson just beating McFarlane m the last twenty yards .
