PROPOSED WATER SUPPLY

TESTS OF WASAUA GOOD QUALITY WATER A ienough plans and specifications lor the proposed Borough V\aier .Supply scheme have not \et come lor ward from the engineer, Air. 11. P. Worley, further progress was made as the result of several tests of water from the Waiaua River taken- by the Health Inspector over the part four months. The quality of the water is reported to be good, but the Health Department in -a letter to the council at Tuesday's meeting advised that the tests showed that a filtration system with chlorination would improve the supply. Cr. AV. Gunson stated that the inclusion of a filtration system would add considerably to the cost. Councillors agreed however that chlorination, which is relatively inexpensive, would undoubtedly be considered. Cr. F. S. Barraclough stated that his house had been connected to the Waiaua River for oyer 20 years and practically no discolouration and certainly mr ill effects had; been traceable.to the water supply in that period.

The correspondence was received and it was agreed that the points raised would be placed before the engineer for consideration.
