Advice bag been received that Mr. S. P. Davies, ex-postmaster, _ Opunake, is at present at Wairoa. The township is quite nice and it is very pretty along the river, while lemons and . small oranges grow in abundance in the district, lie states. The water is laid on but no sewerage yet, although a poll has been taken and a sewerage scheme will be proceeded with this year, Mr. Davies added by way of interest.
Mr. T. T. Murray, of Toko, was appointed chairman of the Taranaki Education Board at a special meeting of the board at New Plymouth on Tuesday afternoon. He succeeds Mr. W ; H. Jones (New Plymouth), who retired from the board at the last meeting after 20 years’ service.- ■ Mr. L. T, Aylward (New Plymouth) was appointed deputy chairman. Mr. Murray, who has been four years a member of the board, is well known in the public-' life of Central and -Northern Taranaki. He has been a member of the executives of many public and semi-public bodies of both’ districts. He also served as a councillor on the Stratford County Council and is still a member of the Stratford Technical High School board of governors. Mr. Murray had a distinguished record in both world wars. In 1915 he went overseas and in June, 1917, he won the. Military Medal at Messines. He was commissioned in January of the following year, and in July he was awarded the Military Cross for services at Hebiterne Wood. In the Second WorldWar he held various army posts before be was appointed commanding’ officer of the Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment in August, 1941.
