CONCERT AT KAWEORA

BY OPUNAKE PARTY. VISIT APPRECIATED. Every seat procurable at Kaweora Camp was required on Friday night to accommodate the large audience that greeted the concert party from Opunake, organised by the Revs. A. J. Farnell (Anglican), C. M, Roberts (Methodist) and C. L. Duder. Along with the men of Kaweora and Arawhata camps, a large number of settlers arrived and tbe seating room having become exhausted, quite a number of the men made themselves comfortable on the floor, every bit of available space up to tbe stagy being utilised. That tbe visit was appreciated was shown at tbe conclusion of each item when every artist was recalled . . The men were very keen about a return visit of the party, while representatives of the other camp requested a visit at an early date. It is likely that both requests* will be acceeded to. The accompaniments were played by Air. D. Richards. Proceedings opened with the song, “Here AVe Are Again” by tbe entire company, followed by a quartette “Ring the Bell AVatcbman” by Messrs R. Hugbson, C. H. Marcroft, Rev. C. L. Duder and T. P. Hugbson. A sketch by Mr. Heycock produced roars of laughter, the quaint humour being very popular. The violin solo “Cavalleria Rusticana” was very pleasingly rendered by Mrs. T. N. AA r att and met with a great reception. Aliss D. Clonston was then heard in a solo, “Sally,” the audience joining in the chorus in great form. A recitation, “Jones Minor,” was nicely rendered by Aliss B. N. Perry, the expressions of the harassed schoolboy being excellently given. Houdini and Nicola will fade into insignificance when the name R, McTavisb is featured on the bill-boards as the world famous magician. This young man demonstrated that he is no novice in the art of conjuring and kept the audience in a mystified mood for twenty minutes. “Happy AVhen I’m Hiking,” a duet rendered by Alisses D. (Houston and B. Johnston was very popularly received. Aliss B. Tunbridge was heard in a recitation “Just Like a Man,” her effort being much eujoved. Air. E. Clark sang “For You Alone” very nicely, tbe violin obligato being rendered by All’s. T. N. Watt. Another recitation, “A Bush Christening,” by Air. C. N. Thayer was amusing. Air. C. H. Marcroft sang “The Ringers.” A mixed quartette consisting of Alisses D. Clonston, B. Jobn- , stou, and Alessrs R, Hugbson and T. P. Hugbson rendered , “Bells of Eve,” tbe harmony being very pleasing. Another sketch by Air. Heycock and tbe : singing of tbe National Anthem concluded tbe programme.

Thanks for Visit. In expressing thanks to the party for their visit, Mr. T. S. Brown, chairman of the camp committee, said all present would agree with him that the programme provided had been greatly enjoyed and lie wished to specially thank the church officials for their kindness in making the visit possible. Mr. J. S. Tosland, on behalf of the combined churches, said the members of the party and their friends were only too delighted to journey to the camp if they knew their efforts would be appreciated. He assured the men that further entertainments would be arranged when he hoped the same attentive and appreciative hearing would be given.

Rev. C. L. Duder also thanked those present for the excellent response to the efforts of the visitors who trusted to visit the camp again. Supper was provided bv the men and was enjoyed by all.

Extras 0 Total 233 Manaia won by an innings and 65 runs.
