CRICKET
AN EXCITING FINISH. PROLIFIC SCORING. Requiring 103 runs to win and 63 minutes in which to compile them would give even Jardine a sinking feeling, but not so with the Opunake eleven when opposed to Manaia on Saturday last. Despite dangerous bowling on the wicket all the time, Griffin and Cundy set to work with a vengeance and in the first two overs pasted the leather all over the ground, 34 runs being scored off the 14 balls.
After 45 minutes play, Opunake had reached the total required and won a most sensational match, the top scorers being Griffin 55 and Cundy 21, tbe first named player registering five 6’s and three 4’s in liis tally. The scores were as under, Opunake winning by three wickets :
