This round served a double purpose as the first sixteen, taken on the gross score, qualify for the Spring Cup, donated to the club for competition among its members. G. Candy's score of 77 was a great effort although F'eaver headed the list with 79—18—61. The scores were as fol'ows; —

(By “Stymie.”) The qualifying round for the Spring Handicap Cup played under boisterous conditions produced a mixed assortment of scores. With the exception of Cundy and Feaver the scores were very ordinary due no doubt to the fact that beyond a few juniors, no one had to worry much about qualifying, as only twenty-one played and sixteen were to qualify. t « * « Although perhaps it does not represent the principal event of the season there can be no doubt but that there is going to be very keen competition for the handsome Spring Handicap Cup, as it is undoubtedly the most valuable and best of the club’s trophies. • * * « The handicaps have been carefully revised and those who have been handing in low scores have suffered the penalty and had their handicaps reduced. The handicaps for the Spring Cup are those shown, the scores in the qualifying round having been taken into consideration.

A consolation handicap trophylias been provided by members of the committee and those who played and did not qualify will be eligible to compete. The trophy is an iron club and the following will compete, Peat, Fouhy, Hooker, Downey and McCrone. • « ft « In the senior championship Edmonds disposed of Stephenson at the 19th hole after a very close and iuteresting contest. • « « « The first round of the championship is becoming Stephenson’s “bugbear,” as lastyear in the first round Feaver took him to the 21st green and this year in the same round Edmonds took him to the 19th. • » « • Those who saw the famous Bobby ‘Jones talkie on “How to Putt” are unanimous in their praise of it from the instructional point of view. It was certainly as good as a leSsou, the most important feature of his putting being that he alters his grip when uViug the putter. Those looking for useful hints will be

well advised to see the remainder of the series. • * « • The Te Ngutu players who were defeated by the local club on Saturday found the local links very difficult. They are used to playing in sheep country and found the local turf very tricky to play on. The teeiftft did not assist them as .feeing up is almost as difficult for those not used to it as it is for tho/e used to teeing up, having to do without it. • * « • x The high wind find dry bourse made play rather tricky* jluring the week-end. The second was easily within reach of idh shots, in fact in some cases c Me had to be taken with the seconi shot for fear of it going over the cliff, whilst the fifth green could be reached with a well hit mashie shot. k » *, m An error occurred in last week’s notes in stating the result > of the Father Kennedy v. F. Hammond match. Th® farmer won 6 and 5, not 5 and
