POWER BOARD’S UNDERTAKING

VISIT OF MEMBERS. PLANT IN GOOD OHDEB. On Friday afternoon members of the Opwmake Power Board paid a visit of inspection to the board’s undertaking, firstly to the power house and then the lake. The power-house, situated on the eastern extremity of the local beach, is, even to the casual observer, a model of neatness. The engineer (Mr. D. Fraser) has everything in tiptop order and it is a credit to him •and his staff that their efficiency has given consumers a maximum supply of power throughout the recent dry summer months. Members expressed themselves as well pleased with the whole plant and commented upon the smooth working of the Diesel engine. The engine has given complete satisfaction which is no doubt a reflection on the continual work and supervision of the engineer and staff. The members, who were very favourably impressed with the building and. plant, next proceeded to the lake. Here the effect of the dry winter is very marked, as the water level is right down to the usual summer height. However, there is no need for concern for, with the aid of the Diesel engine there is still a plentiful supply of water. The pines and microcarpa, recently planted, are making excellent progress are it, will be cellent progress and it will be fore Opunake will have as great scenic spot as to be found in Taranaki. Even now the effect from the AVaiau bridge is amazing, and later, especially to strangers, this will certainly prove a great attraction. Already birds have recognised it as a sanctuary and dozens of wild ducks are to be seen flying about while a huge black swan swims around majestically with his smaller brethren.

The visitors were well pleased with the scene, especially with the trees which, at the present rate of growth, promise to provide a great shelter and breakwind within a very short space of time.

If the supply from the AVaiau Hivor can only be maintained there is no reason to expect any bitches in the supply during the coming summer months.
