School Committee.

The monthly meeting of the committee was held on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs G. Looney (chairman), J. Feaver, 0. A. Trotter, E. J. Dudley, D. Markham, W. Chambers, and W. Fenton. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. headmaster’s report. Mr ,A. Gray (headmaster) reported that he took up duties on September 4, and had hardly been there long enough to know what things may be required, but hoped to send in a fuller report next month. Ha drew attention to the lock on the entrance door, which would not keep closed. During the past fortnight the Truant Inspector visited the school, but the master hopes there will be no necessity for appealing to him, except, perhaps, in one or two bad cases. Your committee will have heardj with satisfaction, of the great success of the school children at the Horticultural Show. Nearly, if not all, of the children’s competitions were won by scholors of this school. The roll number at the present time is: Boys, 40; girls, 47 ; total 87. general. The master’s residence was reported to be in an unhealthy condition, being old, miisty, and worm-eateu. The Inspector’s report on the school and surroundings was read. There was a complaint about cows getting into the playground. Mr Dudley undertook to get a lock and chain and fasten the double gate. Mr Woolford applied for permission to erect a cow-bail in the corner of the paddock adjoining his house,—Granted. (Dudley-Fenton). Mr Gray, who was present, asked permission to use the school-room for a night school. Granted. .(LooueyDudley). Members said they would be pleased to see one started.
