Opunake Town Board.

’The adjourned meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs W. 0. Dudley (chairman), J. G. Read, C. A. Trotter, and J. Stewart. COMPLAINT HEARD. Mr Dillon, pouudkeeper, attended as requested, to answer Mr Moore’s written complaint about impounding a heifer, and uncivil language. Mr Dillon stated that he had impounded two steers and left the lock open for the owner to take them away and in the meantime some one must have put Mr Moore’s heifer in the pound and later on taken it out again on the 4th. He saw the cow that evening outside the pound but did not notice it in the pound when he returned, about 9 p.m., the same evening. Next morning he found the cow on the Namu road and he impounded it. As to being uncivil, all that he said was in reply to Mr Moore’s challenge “ That he could not get justice unless he went to law,” viz , “ You are very fond of the law, you will get more than a belly-full of it before you are finished.” He thought the money should have been paid under protest instead of being subjected to a lot of nig-nagging. In reply to interrogations the ranger stated he kept the town clear ot stock and was continually running in stock. He himself had only two heifers and had a paddock for them, they did get out once but he soon took them off the town when he was aware of it. It was resolved that the clerk inform Mr Moore that his complaint had been inquired into, and the Board cannot do anything further in the matter. DOMAIN BOARD. Same members and chairman ; Mr O’Meara here took his seat. ’TENDERS. One tender for the grandstand arrived after tenders had closed and the Board decided not to open it. The following tenders were dealt with: Crawley and Greenhill, £l6O 15s lOd; C. B. Sims, £147. Mr Sims’ tender was accepted. The Board members and the Caledonian sub-committee meet on the Domain ground next Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., and select site for the erection of the grandstand.
