TE KIRI.
(from our own correspondent).
' On Wednesday evening the residents of Te Kiri entertained Mr and Mrs J. Horgan, who are leaving the district, at a farewell social. There was a large attendance, visitors being present from all parts of the district. Dancing, interspersed with song and recitation, enlivened the evening, and all seemed to thorougly enjoy themselves. A bountiful supper was provided by the ladies of the district, and the music, provided by Miss Dixon (piano), Messrs A. Collins (violin) and W. Watson and J. Coom(accordeon\ was very good. During the evening, Mr Munro, on behalf of the residents of Te Kin, presented Mrs Horgan with a massive silver biscuit-barrel, and Mr Horgan with a travelling bag and rug. In do : ng so, he referred to the loss Te Kiri°would sustain in losing such a sterling and respeoted settler as Mr Horgan. While he had been here, he had always worked hard for anything that tended to advance the district. As a member of the Athletic Society, and especially as a footba'ler, his loss would be keenly felt, while in social circles Mr and Mrs Horgan would leave a gap that could never be filled. Mr F. Collins also spoke of the good qualities of the guests of the evening. Hearty cheers were given, and Mr Munro, on behalf of Mr and Mrs Horgan, thanked the people of Te Kiri for their good wishes and other tokens of good-will accorded to them.
Mr and Mrs Horgau leave on Thursday for their new home at Alton.
