The Palmer Road Committee forwarded a resolution, to the effect that the Committee protest against any examination of the school previous to the annual one in or near November, 1896, believing that an examination is detrimental to the interests of the school and also that it is contrary to the letter and spirit of the Education Act.
The Board saw no reason to alter the decision already arrived at. The following letter was received from the High School Board of Governors.
“ Chairman. Education Board.— Sir,—l have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of April 10 th, which was duly considered at a special meeting of the Board of Governors on 18th inst., after due consideration the following resolution was unanimously passed:— ‘ This Board is unable to accede to the request contained in the letter of April 10th from the chairman of the Education Board. In the opinion of this Board it is not, on principle, desirable that secondary schools should be examined by au Inspector of Primary Schools. At the same time the Governors of the High School are, and have always been willing as a matter of courtesy that the Education Board should have every reasonable facility for ascertaining the state of the High School and the efficiency of the examination.’ In conveying this resolution to your Board I would remind you that the High School is annually inspected by the Inspector General of Schools.— I have &c., J. B. Eoy, Chairman of Board of Governors.
