PUNIHO.
(Orn Own Correspondent.) Tho axle of the wat'-r wheel at the Waiweranui dairy factory broke last week. Suppliers had to take their milk to the Punguchu factory, which consequently meant Into hours in getiing through. Mr Leydom bad an accident to bis milk cart on Wednesday, when returning home from Pungaiehu. The axle broke and deposited the contents on the ground. Fortunately there were no bones broken. Harvesters and road contractors are taking advantage of the fine weather, and arc pushing their work through with the utmost despatch. Captain Edwin has apparently made up his mind to treat the Pungarehu race meeting to a fine day, in which case there will bo a large gathering and good racing. Host’Gray, of Okato, lias the publican’s and refreshment booths, so that the wants of the inner man are sure of every attention. There has been a bit of a curiosity on the road between Okato and Puuiho for the past fortnight. At first sight, it looks like two or three overcoats surmounted by a huge muffler, but on closer inspection there is found to be six feet of skin and bone, the remains of a man, travelling at the rate of six miles an hour. On being recognised and questioned, Charley replied: “ Only taking off weight to ride in the District Race on Thursday, but it is bally rough on a fellow !”
