Separators.
New Zealand in not the only part of the world in which dissatisfaction exists with regard to milk returns as the following letter to the Yea Chronicle, (Victoria), shows : Sir,— Recently I purchased a De Laval hand separator, of 33 gallons per hour capacity which has been set up and worked to my utmost satisfaction. It has proved to do its work to the minute and from my tests up to the present I am satisfied that in the past the Dairy Company has been having a lot the best of me. According to the creamery tests it used to take over 11 quarts of my milk to make a pound of butter but since I have separated for myself it has taken only 8 quarts, so that there has been a grave error somewhere, and one which I hope the directors of the Company will be able to solve to their suppliers satisfaction. On New Year’s day I separated 40 gallons of milk for Mrs Coonan, of the Sisters, the results of which I intend to forward later on.—l am &c. John Doherty.
