Parihaka Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday, September 17th. Present—Messrs Maxwell (chairman), Wells, Caddy, Wright, T. W. Corbett, and Morrison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, Mr T. W. Corbett objecting. correspondence. From W. H. Claris, claiming for felling, burning, and grassing road in front of Section 29, Block XLY., Opunake. Mr Wright said he understood that the work had been done by some other person, who would send in his claim in due course. Resolved, That the letter lie on the table. [Wright-Morrison.] From F. W. McGuinness, requesting the Board to fell bush on Newall Road, in front of Section 10, Block XIY, Cape, so that be could erect his ft nee. Resolved, That Mr McGuinness be offered 3s per chaiu for felling and grassing, to be cLarged to D.P. account. [Caddy-Wells.] From J. Crisp, giving notice regarding alleged damage through drainage. Resolved, That the letter lie on the table. [Wright-Morrison.] From O. Samuels, stating that the Board could not make by-laws if the Counties Act is in force, and that the County Council was the only body empowered. The Chairman pointed out that Mr Samuels had not fully replied to the questions put. Resolved, That Mr Samuels ba asked if the by-laws drafted by the Board would be in order if adopted by the Council, which he had omitted to explain in his letter. [WrightCaddy.] From J. Crisp, re drain. Mr Quickenden waited on the Board and explained that he had not cut any drain on the road. Mrs Crisp’s fence was on the road r as be had found the peg 17 feet inside the fence line. He suggested that the Board should compel Mrs Crisp to remove her fence back to its proper line. Resolved, Thatr the resolution calling on Mr Quickenden to fill in the ditch be rescinded. Resolved, That Mrs Crisp’s letter be acknowledged, and that as no drain has been cut on the road, the Board take no further action. [WrightMorrison.] BANGER. Mr Coffey attended and gave an ex-* planation of the charges made against him. A long discussion ensued, Messrs Maxwell, Corbett, Caddy, and Wells considering that the charges were not proved, as it was only one man’s word against another’s, and that a Maori’s ; whilst Messrs Wright and Morrison were satisfied that it was time a change was made. Mr Morrison moved, and Mr Wright seconded, that the services of Mr Coffey, as ranger, be dispenstd with. Ayes: Morrison, Wright, Maxwell. Noes: Corbett, Caddy, Wells. The Chairman gave his casting vote in favour-of the motion, which was carried. Mr Purchase applied for appointment as ranger. * Moved, That applications be called. [Wells-Corbett.] Mr Wright moved, as an amendment, that Mr Purchase be appointed. Seconded by Mr Morrison and carried. Resolved, That the Ranger keep an account of all stock pounded and fees charged, to bo submitted to the Board monthly. [Wright-Morrison.] Resolved, That Mr Mills inspect the road at the Drainage Reserve, and report at next meeting. [Wright-Mor-rison.] The following tenders were received for bridge and earthwork on the Punibo, RoadW. Wilson, £ll for bridge and Gd per yard for earthwork (accepted); H. Corbett, £ll 19s and 7d per yard Resolved that the clerk obtain the cost of constructing steel trams, and concrete and glazed pipes for culverting. Resolved, That a special rate of lsd in the £ be struck over the Ihaia Road special rating area as security for loan, and that a special meeting be held on 'Monday, 22nd October, to confirm same. [Corbett-Maxwell.] Resolved, That W. Mills’ claim of £4 10s for bushfelling, burning, and grassing on the Okahu Road be passed for payment out of D.P. moneys. The ordinary accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
