Taranaki Count Council.

A special meeting of the Taranaki County Council .was held on Friday., Present: Messrs Bewley (chairman), Okey, Adlam, Tate, Connett, Horrocks, and McOullum. TOLLGATES; Pursuant to notice of motion, Mr Bewley moved That tollgates be; established at Waiwakaiho, Junction Road, Inglewood, Waiongona, and Waitara. < —Seconded by Mr Connett, and carried. EATING. Pursuant to notice given, Mr Bewley moved, “ That in accordance with provisions of sub-section 6 of section 2 of “ The Rating Acts Amendment Act, 1893,” the County Council of the County of Taranaki hereby determine that the Rating Act, 1882, andamendments thereof shall be in force within the Taranaki County, and all that assessments of property within the said county shall be made under the provisions ofthe said Acts.”—Seconded by Mr Okey and carried.—lt was also de* cided that property be assessed triennially ; also to call for applications for assessing the county in four separate ridings. COST OF ASSESSING. The Council passed the following resolution which will be sent in circular form to the other Councils, viz, “ That inreply to a circular letter received from the Commissioner of Taxes, dated August 6, re local bodies furnishing the Tax Department with a list of valuations for the cost of copying the same, in consideration for which the Tax Department will allow local bodies the use of maps and section list!, the Taranaki County .Council request thg Government to contribute a fair proportion towards the cost of assessment in addition to the present conditional offer.—Herald.
