Small-Pox at Eltham.

(special reporter.) Eltham, July 12. A child took ill at Henry’s mill. Dr Harrison declared it to be smallpox in a mild form. Drs Paget and Valentine were called in, and confirmed the diagnosis. The school has been closed pending further developments. Our own correspondent says: Eltham people were considerably, alarmed this morning by a report which later evidence substantiated, of an outbreak of small pox close to their midst, the eldest child of Mr Wallace, of Henry’s mill being the person afflicted. Mr Wallace has had a large amount of misfortune lately himself, only having recently recovered from a broken leg. Drs Harrison and Valentine concurred in their opinion as to the case being small pox, and the Eltham school has been closed pending further investigation.—Haw'era Star.
