Opunake School Commissioners.
A meeting of the above was convened for Thursday evening. Present —Messrs O’Brien, D. McGregor, and Guy. Mr D. McGregor moved, That Mr Guy be Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr O'Brien was prepared to support the motion provided Mr Guy was prepared to undertake the duties of secretary as well. Mr Guy objected to doing both duties, and was of opinion that the two offices should not be combined. Mr O’Brien said he had performed the duties of both offices during the past year, and considered one man could very easily do both. Mr Guy still objected to undertake both duties. Mr McGregor was appealed to to act as secretary but declined, and Mr O’Brien also declined to act as secretary, as he explained he would be doing the work and others taking the credit. He was willing if neither of the others would do so to do both duties, but declined to play second fiddle to Mr Guy. As no agreement could he arrived at and Mr McGregor’s motion was not seconded, the meeting lapsed without any progress being made.
