TO THE EDITOR

DAIRY ASSOCIATION AFFAIRS Sir, —In that famous circular issued to the suppliers of the above Association dated 9/7/34, there was a reference, among certain compliments—therein stated—to some 560 suppliers. Now the “Report and Balance Sheet” of 1940 shows the number of suppliers as 567. In that interval in one direction there was 'a large number joined to the above Association and in another a fire destroyed a factory and the supply was- diverted to Opotiki, and yet the increase is only seven. • Was it a case of “Tuck me in my little wooden bed and kiss me goodnight S M—for to-morrow you will allot me my old number again”, when a certain factory was zoned out ? Probably the chairman of directors could give some information? WEE MACK.

REPAIR WORK Sir, —I think the Borough Council would be better employed in attending to other very important works instead of tearing up a good footpath and relaying it ill concrete. I have heard numerous adverse comments- on the expenditure of a considerable sum of money' in putting down a new concrete path when the expenditure of only a few pounds would have given the path in question a further life of at least live years. It sieems only a short time ago that the council widened this path by sealing it right up to the police fence. Ail admit that the concrete path in a work of art and a crodit to the borough foreman, but if that is all the use the council can put rates to, then it is high time the council made room for-others with less lavish ideas. Other paths arc in a shocking state .of repair and require attention, not to mention the street near the monument, which is a disgrace to the borough. Probably the council is using this street to show the nearby P.W.D. officers just what a sealed road should not look like. Cr is it that the council wishes to recall tho renowned state of Gisborne main street, Gladstone Road. BUMPS.
