“GO-SLOW” POLICY

Adoption By Otago Dairy Workers After a stop-work meeting lasting from 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock yesterday afternoon, members of the OtagoSouthland branch of the New Zealand Dairy Workers’ Union decided not to strike but to adopt a “ go-slow ” policy. A statement given to the Daily Times after the meeting stated: “ That owing to information received the strike action is to be withheld in the meantime and a go-slow policy adopted. The workers are instituting a five-day, 40-hour week and are refusing all overtime on a daily and weekly basis.” The manager of the Dunedin Milk Treatment Station, Mr G. Hepburn, had no comment to make on the men’s decision, and it appeared) from inquiries made by the Daily Times that it will be difficult to gauge what effect the “go-slow” policy will have on the city milk supply until it is ascertained what tactics the men will adopt in carrying out the decision of the meeting. It was learned from Wellington that the Minister of Labour, Mr Sullivan, will call a compulsory conference of the parties in. the Auckland dispute today and probably this move had some bearing on the decision made in Dunedin yesterday. „ x It would appear, therefore, that until the result of the Auckland conference is known Dunedin householders will continue to receive their daily milk.
