Useful Sprint Trials By Wyndham Candidates
Special to Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Oct. 10.
Horses with engagements at the Wyndham Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday provided most interest in training operations at Invercargill this morning, when the outside of the course proper was open and the track was in firm order. All Alone and Salma Chief took the honours over five furlongs; Hillane and Censure recorded the best six, and the stablemates, Gay Gitana and Whinny, put up the best mile figures. With the approach of the southern spring circuit added interets is being shown in training operations at headquarters.
All Alone, who looks particularly well, and the novice, Salma Chief, were paired over five furlongs in lmin ssec, the last half in 52 2-ssec. Salma Chief looks improved by his two races at the Dunedin meeting, and he will be a prospect at Wyndham this week. Hillane and Censure put some dash into their six-furlong task in lmin 19 3-ssec, the first half in 53 l-ssec, the pair finishing together. Salmon Spear went off from the mile at little better than three-quarter, pace, and after being joined by Angelus near the half, completed the mile in lmin 50sec, the last four in 51 l-ssec. Salmon Spear hit out in his best style, finishing well clear of Angelus, but the pick-up was not a good one. Gay Gitana and Whinny were not troubled to complete a mile in lmin 49 2-ssec, the last half in 54 2-ssec. Both worked very freely.
