TREATY VIOLATIONS

United Nations Condemns Balkan States

NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 5. The United Nations Special Political Committee by 39 votes to 5, with 13 absentions, today condemned Hungary, Bulgaria and Rumania for violating the human rights provisions of their peace treaties. The committee approved an amended Australian resolution which also invited all United Nations members to submit any evidence they might have of religious and civil persecutions in the three Balkan countries.

The resolution, which now goes to the General Assembly for approval, also noted with anxiety the “ continuous accusations ” of human rights violations in the three States as well as their failure satisfactorily to refute the charges. Only the Soviet Union, Byelo-Russia, the Ukraine. Poland and Czechoslovakia opposed the resolution. India, Indonesia. Israel, Syria, Mexico, Pakistan, Burma, and Egypt were among the countries abstaining.
