MOVE TO GUARD AGAINST * TUBERCULOSIS NZPA Special Correspondent

Rec. 11 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 6. The Dean of Christ Church, Oxj ford, Dr John Lowe, has announced that the university authorities intended to invite freshmen arriving this term to submit to a mass radiographic examination to guard against tuberculosis. “ Whether this modest start is to be the first step towards a more far-reaching university health service for the undergraduates in question is under consideration,” said Dr Lowe. “My own hope is that in due course we will go further.” Dr A. D. Gardner. Regius Professor of Medicine, said that an X-ray examination of undergraduates had been planned for a long time to meet a definite need in Oxford. There had been a troublesome amount of tuberculosis among undergraduates. “It has been thought for some time that we ought to screen all newcomers to find out of they are likely to break down, and to take the necessary steps to arrest the disease before it developed.
