FESTIVAL OPENS

Otago Presbyterian Bible Classes A good standard of performance was shown at the opening night of the Otago Presbyterian Bible classes’ annual choral and dramatic competitions in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night. The festival will finish on Saturday. For the four nights the programmes will include vocal trios, two-part a d four-part choirs, piano solos and duets, instrumental trios, songs, impromptu speeches, and Scripture readings. On the final night the Rai McNichol Trophy for four-part choirs will be presented. The judges last night were Miss Molly Randle (dramatisations), and Mr G. Scott (vocal trios and two-part choirs). The results were:— Vocal Trios.— Musselburgh (J. Grant, A. Luke, and N. Bastings), 83 points, 1; Kaikorai (D. Gilchrist, J. Hanna, and M. Gilchrist). 82, 2; South Dunedin (H. Douglas, J. Douglas, and N. Marston), 81, 3. Two-part Choirs—Ravensbourne, 83, 1; Momington, 82, 2; South Dunedin and Knox (equal), 81, 3. Dramatisations. —North-East Valley 1, Green Island 2, Anderson’s Bay 3.
