Award Of Fellowship

APPLICATIONS INVITED PA WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. The Minister of Health, Mr Watts, announced today that the Medical Research Council is inviting applications for the award of a fellowship, the object of which is to promote medical research by encouraging science graduates of outstanding ability to enter that field.and to encourage medical or dental graduates of exceptional ability to undertake research training before proceeding to higher professional studies. The council initiated the fellowship scheme in June, 1949, by the award of a fellowship to Mr R. L. Blakley. M.Sc., of Dunedin. The council is satisfied that the scheme has fully justified itself and, with the approval of the Government, is now inviting applications for the award of a second fellowship. The fellowship is 9 pen to graduates in medicine or dentistry and to honours graduates in arts, science, home science and agriculture. It will be awarded in the first instance for one year, but may be renewable each year for a maximum tenure of three years. Emoluments will be paid to the fellow selected at the rate of £4OO and £450 a year for the first and second years respectively and £SOO for the third year. The award will be made for work in any aspect of research (clinical, physical or biological) relating to health and associated matters. _ Fellows successfully completing their fellowships are specialty elegible for future permanent appointments under the Medical Research Council.
