INSURANCE SUGGESTED

Blood Donors At Oamaru Hospital It was considered that the board should insure against liability for personal bodily injury to blood donors, stated a letter from the Department of Health, received at the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Hospital Board yesterday. The amount of cover, the letter stated, should be the amount for which the board had cover with respect to any one accident under its existing policy for negligent treatment. Mr J. Rodman was in the chair, and there were also present—Mrs T. Munro, Dr D. J. Miller, Messrs J. S. Adams, H. C. Jeffery, W. Kinder, J B. Chapman, G. O. Pringle, and the acting medical superintendent, Dr A. O. E. Gilmour. The imposition of restrictions on hospital boards generally in the matter of determining rates of salaries and wages of employees was deemed necessary because certain boards had increased the remuneration of certain employees beyond what was held justifiable. This was stated in a further letter from the department. The secretary reported that the radio and loud speakers contributed by the 2nd NZEF Association had been installed in Fraser Ward and were working well. The tender of Maynard and Armstrong of £2997 for the construction of a house surgeon’s residence was accepted, subject to ministerial consent. Misses R. W. Dickson, P. Logan, and J. L. McMillan were appointed Maternity Annexe sisters. The resignation of Mrs M. Anderson from the Maternity Annexe was accepted with regret. The architect, Mr W. I. C. Steenson, advised that the contractor, Mr R. Young, expected to be able to commence the tuberculosis annexe addition in about one month’s time.

It was decided to purchase Health stamps to the value of £5.
