“AN INSPECTOR CALLS”

Bright Entertainment

The Oamaru Little Theatre Society delighted the audience with its fine production of J. B. Priestley's three-act play “An Inspector Calls.” which it presented in the Opera House on Wednesday night and last night. Since its foundation the society has produced 19 plays and the high standard it has set was fully maintained in its latest production.

The play concerns a self-satisfied family in an English industrial town who care for little but their own reputation. The appearance of an inspector to make a few inquiries on a recent suicide case shatters their illusion, however, and leads to a series of dramatic developments

The parts of Arthur Birling and his wife, Sybil Birling, were played by Mr H. C. Cameron and Mrs J. R. V. Hudson, while their children, Sheila Birling and Eric Birling, were taken by Mrs D. Leitch and Mr G. W. Fagan. Gerald Croft was played by Mr R. W. H. Maslin, Edna by Mrs J D. M. Herron and the inspector by Mr K. C. McDonald. The producer was Mrs C. Clark, the stage manager Mr A. F. Woodgate, the business manager Mr A. C. Restieaux. and make-up was by Mr E Garchow “ Green Grows the Cabbages," a bright one-act comedy by Philip Johnson, was also well received and added a touch of humour to the evening after the dramatic lines of the main production. The cast was —Cook, Mrs T. P. Berry; Ivy, Miss Brenda Thomas; Iris, Miss Frances Mackie; Janet Colyngham, Mrs R. Hammill; Naomi Wavertree, Mrs R The producer was Mrs L. Harris. The proceeds of the plays were in aid of the Kindergarten Association appeal, and with the generous response of the public the fund should benefit substantially.
