DEFENCE EQUIPMENT

Allocation Of American Aid To Siam NZPAr-Copyright Rec. 9.30 p.m. BANGKOK, May 14. Siam’s armed forces plan to allocate the majority of the 10,000,000-dol-lars United States military aid to the purchase ..of communications equip-' ment. A heavy allocation is planned for automotive military transport, earth-moving equipment for strategic military roads and north-east frontier airfields, and mobile radio equipment. The shortage of dollar reserves previously precluded the large scale purchase of these types of equipment. The defence chiefs plan to dovetail United States aid with the recent sterling purchases of defence equipment, which includes 33 Spitfire groundstrafing fighter aircraft, complete small arms requirements for five battalions of infantry in South Siam, small arms for a battalion of police in South Siam, war surplus tracked weapon carriers, and modern British armoured cars for the police.
