Bevin Welcomes French Industrial Merger Plan

NZPA —Copyright Rec. 7.20 p.m. LONDON, May 14. The British Foreign Minister, Mr Ernest Bevin, today extended a general welcome to the French plan to merge Western Europe’s heavy industries, which might end Franco-Ger-man hostility. He questioned, however, the impact of the plan on the standard of life of the British worker. Mr Bevin said the proposal for the equalisation of living standards between the industrial workers of the countries taking part in the scheme would have to be carefully investigated so that its implications for British steelworkers would be clear.
