NORTH OTAGO BEATEN In the first representative senior cricket match of the season, North Otago was defeated by 27 runs on the first innings by South Canterbury at Timaru on Tuesday. South Canterbury batted first to make 181 runs, E. McEwen and A. Cade, the openings batsmen, scoring 38 and 42 respectively. South Canterbury had six wickets 'down for 107, but a seventh wicket stand by J. K. Webber and JLang carried the score to 167. R. McLaren was North Otago’s most successful bowler, capturing five wickets for 44 runs. North Otago’s batting was not very impressive, R. McLaren (64) being almost the only one to make a stand. L.
