THE WESTERN UNION
Lord Montgomery Optimistic “REMARKABLE PROGRESS” NZPA—Reuter—Copyright LONDON. Oct. 12. Field-marshal Lord Montgomery said to-day that he was “very optimistic about the future of Western Union cooperation and integration!” Addressing the Royal United Services’ Institution, Lord Montgomery, who is chairman of the Western Union Commander-in-chiefs’ Committee, declared: “We have made remarkable progress—far beyond what would normally be considered possible in peacetime. We have achieved results which 15 or 20 years ago would have appeared impossible to attain on this international basis.”
The way in which operational procedure and equipment had been standardised was “ significant,” he said. He deprecated any tendency to lean on the United States, adding: “We must act first and get on with the business, and our very good friends will rally to our support in their own good time.”
