LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Increased Membership A steady increase in membership throughout the province was reported at the annual meeting of the League of Mothers, held on Thursday. There are now 26 branches and 1871 members. Mrs P. H. Jones was in the chair, ana extended a welcome to representatives from Timaru, Milton, Stirling, Balclutha, Invercargill, and Riverton, and also to new presidents and secretaries. Floral sprays were presented to Mrs Bras», representing the joint Committee in southland, and to Mrs Leaman. Timaru. .. ... The president, in her remarks, said that the league this year had organised three new branches, whilst several others had celebrated their coming of age. Greetings were received from the Dominion Executive, Auckland and Wellington provinces, Timaru and Riverton. The financial statement revealed a satisfactory position. Mrs Jones nominated Mrs L. D. Mclver as provincial president. She asked members to give their new president the support and encouragement she had experienced during her own years of office, and presented Mrs Mclver with a shoulder spray. The resignations of Mrs A. McDonald, treasurer, and Mrs J. Matthews, supplies secretary, were received with regret. These officers were thanked for their work and presented with bouquets of spring flowers. Othet officers elected were:—Hon. vice-presidents—-Mesdames Aslin, Merrlngton, Nelson Sinclair, and H. Wilson; vicepresidents—Mesdames Harris, Stobo, Wallace, Inglis (South Otago), Armstrong, Rawley, and the retiring branch presidents for one year: hon. secretary, Mrs J. Davidson; hon. treasurer, Mrs G. W Waddell; hon. assistant secretary, Mrs A. W. Warburton; supplies secretary, Mrs W. J. M. Grant; magazine distributor, Mrs R. Galbraith: magazine reporter, Mrs H. Sonntag; executive—Mesdames Mclver, Jones, Armstrong, Rawley, Davidson, Waddell, Warburton, Grant, Galbraith, Sonntag, and four branch presidents yet to be appointed (for one year); delegate to National Council of Women, Mrs J. W. Armstrong; delegates to Pioneer Women’s Association, Mesdames Nelson and Rawley: representative for Riverton, Mrs W. J. M. Grant; representative for Timaru, Ms U. Rathbone.
